Women’s Soccer Team Comes Up Short Despite Strong Performance

Memphis, Tenn.-The women's soccer team had a dominating first half, with a number of scoring opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss against Fontbonne University Sunday.

Ozarks (0-3-0) started the match strong generating four shots in the first 15 minutes of play. Ozarks put pressure on Fontbonne's defense as goalkeeper Taylor Pulvirenti was forced to make three saves in the first half. Ozarks was awarded a penalty kick in the 41st minute, but came up empty as Alberici made the save. At the end of the first half, Ozarks had nine shots.

In the second half, Fontbonne (2-1-0) scored the match's only goal in the 49th minute. Ozarks would collect just two shots following the game-winning goal, but did have three corner kicks. Ozarks ended the match with 11 shots, while Fontbonne had 18.

In goal for Ozarks was freshman Megan Bradford, who recorded eight saves.

Ozarks will travel to Missouri next weekend to face Westminster September 11 and Knox College September 12.
