Baseball falls in DH to Principia

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team was able to host Principia in a SLIAC doubleheader on Good Friday.  Greenville fell short in a 17-6 decision in game one before giving up three runs in the top of the ninth to lose game two 7-4.

In game one, starting pitcher Bryce Pearce was lifted in the third inning when Principia scored eight times and put game one out of reach.

Offensive production was not the problem.  Klaiton Wolff hit a solo homer, and Sam Hodges blasted a two run shot.  Travis Ralls, Wolff, Grant Carman, Mark Islas, and Ryan Taylor all had two hits.

In game two, the Panthers held a 3-0 lead after three innings that Principia tied in the top of the fourth.  Greenville added another run in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead and held it until Principia scored in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-all.

Ralls went 3-for-5, and Austn Marsh and Wolff produced two hits.

Sam Alendar was solid in his start on the mound.  He went five innings with three runs allowed, one earned, before yielding to the Panther bullpen.

The Panthers (7-10, 2-2 SLIAC) are scheduled to play Principia on Saturday in Greenville.
