Women's basketball finishes as SLIAC runner up

EUREKA, Ill. -- The women's basketball team fell short of a second straight appearance in the NCAA national tournament as they were handed an 82-74 loss at Eureka in the SLIAC tournament championship game.  Greenville was led in scoring by Claire Schmitt with 16 points.

Kelly Lenz was right rehind Schmitt with 15 points and eight rebounds. Laura Goodnight chipped in 15 points, and Wesley Woodard added 13 points.

Eureka took a 23-18 lead after one quarter, and Greenville held a 39-35 halftime advantage.

Eureka regained the lead in the third quarter, and Greenville never again went on top.  The teams entered the fourth quarter with Eureka on top by a 54-53 score.

Eureka shot better than Greenville in field goal percentage, three-point field goal percentage, and free throw percentage as the teams were otherwise evenly match.

Schmitt and Taylor Paulin grabbed two steals.

Goodnight and Schmitt were recognized on the all-tournament team.

The Lady Panthers (18-9) finished the season in second place in the SLIAC standings, and they were SLIAC tournament runners up for the first time.
