FULTON, Mo. - Westminster softball dropped two close games to Buena Vista, falling 3-2 in the first game and 4-1 in the second behind a strong offensive outing from Erica Burney.

Westminster falls to 3-7 on the year with the losses. 

"This was great softball today all around," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "Buena Vista is a high quality opponent and we went toe-to-toe with them." 

Alyson Hahn pitched the first game for the Blue Jays, going the distance and completing all seven innings, giving up just three runs on six hits while striking out six. 

The Beavers scored first in the fourth inning on a single up the middle that scored a run. They added two more runs in the fifth to go up 3-0. 

A comeback run from Westminster started in in sixth. Josie Cotter hit single up the middle to start the inning, while Brooke Laidley came in to pinch run for her. 

Erica Burney stepped to the plate and blasted a two-run homer over the centerfield wall to put Westminster down 3-2. 

A seventh inning comeback wasn't in the cards for the Blue Jays, who came up just short of the win in game one. 

Katie Price took the mound for Westminster in the second game, also pitching a complete game. She gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out one. 

Buena Vista again scored first with an RBI single in the first inning. They tacked on three more runs to the total with a three-run homer in the fourth. 

Westminster answered the in fourth with one run on an RBI single from Cotter, but it wasn't enough to earn a win for the Blue Jays. 

"All in all, I'm very happy," said Henderson. "Both games were winnable in the last inning. There is lots of heart and fight going into spring break. This team is going to make a lot of noise."

Burney led the team on the day by going 3-5 with two RBI. 

The Blue Jays continue on their spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The first game is Saturday, March 18 against Wisconsin-Stout.
