Baseball sweeps Robert Morris Springfield

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team topped Robert Morris Springfield in two games at home on Wednesday.  The Panthers won game one 8-3 before taking a 13-3 win in the second game.

Greenville fell behind 3-0 in the first inning to start the game, but that was all Robert Morris Springfield could muster over the rest of the game.

Greenville's runs were provided by the long ball as Jesse Getz, Danny Strohm, Travis Ralls, and Sam Hodges all homered.

Bryce Pearce was the winning pitcher with six innings of work.  He allowed three runs, two earned, and struck out five.

Game two saw Greenville give up another first inning run, but Greenville gained the lead 2-1 with an RBI double from Mike Hardin and an RBI single from Shane Olmsted.

Robert Morris went back on top with two runs in the top of the second.

The Panthers posted a four-run third and one-run fourth to take command.

In the third, Olmsted's RBI fielder's choice scored the first run.  Shortly thereafter, Hodges delivered an RBI double, and Max Gabriel tallied an RBI single.  Pearce drove in the final run with a sacrifice fly.

A homer by Getz made the score 7-3, and Greenville exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Olmsted and Pearce both walked with the bases loaded, Strohm added a two-run double, and Getz had a two-run single.

Austin Marsh gained the pitching win to improve his record to 3-2.  He allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits.

The Panthers (15-12) travel to Eureka for a SLIAC doubleheader on Saturday.
