Men's soccer receives goal in 77th minute for 1-0 win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team passed an early test in conference action as they defeated Iowa Wesleyan 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

IWU received the fifth place position in the preseason coaches poll, but the Panthers, who were seventh in the same poll, showed their improvement from 2017 as they outshot Iowa Wesleyan 13-9 in the match.

The match was extremely physical with the teams combining for nine yellow cards.

Greenville received the winning goal from Adam Jones in the 77th minute of the match with an assist from Caleb Mulholland.

Juan Jose Herranz had a number of scoring opportunities with four shots.

Goalkeeper Nick Holland produced the shutout with five saves.

The Panthers (8-2, 1-0 SLIAC) host Blackburn on Wednesday night at 5 p.m.
