Game Breakdown
The Griffins were on the offensive early putting constant pressure on the Panthers defense and goalie Leslie Barrera.
Fontbonne had a great scoring chance in the 14th minute when Krystal Kohenskey's shot went off the far-left post and went across the goal line hitting the other post, but the Panthers defense was there to keep it a 0-0 game.
Then, in the 38th minute, the Griffins finally broke through. Kovarik got behind the Panthers defense and was tripped up by Barrera in the box which awarded Fontbonne a penalty kick. The Festus, Mo., native, broke the tie with her ninth goal on the season into the bottom left corner of the net giving Fontbonne a 1-0 lead.
It was more of the same story in the second half with Fontbonne having a 21-2 shot advantage. Principia had a chance to score the equalizer in the 84th minute when Georgia Rather came up the left side of the field all alone, however Mary Beers was there to make the save to secure the shutout win.
