Westminster Men's Soccer Shut Out by Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Westminster was blanked by Illinois College in a close 1-0 battle.

The Blue Jays falls to 1-6-1 on the year overall, all in nonconference play.

"I'm super proud of the effort here tonight," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We did a good job of dictating a tempo and eliminating counter-attacking opportunities."

Illinois College owned the first half and outshot Westminster 12-7 and landed a goal in the 26th minute on a through ball that just passed goalkeeper Raul Belman

The Blue Jays dominated the second half offensively despite having to play a man down after a red card to Austin Chandler. Westminster had 11 shots to Illinois College's 1, but weren't able to net an equalizer to take the match to overtime.

"To play a man down  and show the commitment we had as a team was great," added Galla. "Illinois College is a good side. We play a super tough nonconference schedule and now we are fully prepared for conference play Saturday."

Daniel Barone led the team with three shots, including two on goal. Belman faced seven shots, saving six.

The Blue Jays begin play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Saturday at Blackburn.
