Westminster Volleyball Takes One in Opening Day

ST. LOUIS - Westminster volleyball took a win in its opening day, winning 3-0 in its second match of the day against Lincoln.

Westminster overcame Lincoln 3-0 in three tight sets, winning 25-23, 25-17, and in extra points for the third set, 29-27, to complete the sweep. 

In their first game of the day, the Blue Jays took Benedictine to a full five sets in their opening match of the season, winning the first and fourth sets but eventually falling 3-2. Westminster took Benedictine to extra points in the fifth set, eventually falling 16-14 to take the loss.  

Westminster had several freshman stand out during the opening weekend, including setter Jill Reando, who led the team in assists in both matches and totalled 52 between the two matches. 

Allie Kennebeck led the offense on the day with 16 kills in each match for 32 on the day. Bridget Ringwald proved herself as the continued defensive presence on the squad, tallying 51 digs on the day.

The Blue Jays continue their opening road trip Wednesday, Sept. 5 against conference opponent Eureka.
