Game Breakdown
The Griffins owned a 5-1 shot advantage early but were unable to break the scoreless tie. One of the best scoring chances came in the 26th minute when Alyson Carroll's header from inside the box looked to be headed in, but Grace Gehner was there to tip the shot attempt over the bar and out of play.
Then, in the 28th minute, the Panthers broke the tie when Emma Cadwell's free kick found the head of Jen De Leon De Leon and she flicked it up ahead to Samantha De La Cruz who scored giving them a 1-0 lead.
That lead was short-lived as the Griffins answered in the 40th minute. There was a battle for the loose ball in the box and Katie Leeker came up with it. She passed it over into the box for Mia Biermann and she buried her shot for her first collegiate goal to tie the game at the break.
In the second half, the Griffins continued its offensive push and it paid off in the 71st minute. Molly Kovarik raced to the loose ball near the end line and crossed it towards the top of the box. Leeker was there and she ripped her shot into the top left corner giving Fontbonne a 2-1 lead.
From there, the Griffins remained in control and went on for the one goal victory.
