Women's soccer blows past Maranatha Baptist

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The women's soccer team returned to Greenville for a match on Saturday after two games on the road and shut out Maranatha Baptist 7-0 on Saturday.

The Panthers received five goals in the first half as they started their scoring in the first minute of the game.

They managed to score twice in the second half after the match was out of reach.

Kate Arthur tallied the game-winning goal just 59 seconds into the match, and 90 seconds later Dani Pearce posted her third goal of the year.

Michelle Grotefendt added the first goal of her career three minutes later.

In the 20th minute, Arthur posted her sixth goal of the season, and Pearce recorded her fourth goal of the year in the 41st minute.

In the second half, Breanna Thomas's third goal of the year gave Greenville a 6-0 lead, and Suzi Conner's second goal in the 63rd minute wrapped up Greenville's scoring.

The Panthers posted a 14-0 advantage in shots in the first half and improved with a 16-0 shot advantage in the second half.

Pearce attempted five shots, including four on goal, and Arthur piled up four shots, including three on goal.  Brooklyn Haro also had three shots on goal.

Goalkeepers Marjory Coates and Reaghan Lesh combined to complete the shutout as both women were untested by Maranatha's attack.

The Panthers (6-3) will play Illinois College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Francis Field.
