BEREA, Ky. – Torell Carter's driving layup in the closing seconds proved to be the difference as Berea downed Eureka in non-league action, 90-88 at Seabury Center in Berea, Ky.

Carter's came shortly after Dakota Bennington (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian H.S./Olivet Nazarene) pushed down two free throws for an 88-88 deadlock with 33 seconds to play. After Carter's field goal, Eureka had one final chance to shoot for the tie or the win, but a 3-point attempt from the wing as time expired was off the mark.

Hank Thomas (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods H.S.) had another big offensive night, putting up a game-high 30 points. Bennington added 29 and Austin Juergens (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) ended the night with 15 points.

Saturday's game featured eight ties and 11 lead changes. The Red Devils trailed by as many as nine points in the first half and were behind 50-46 at intermission. Thomas's 3-pointer gave the visitors a 56-55 lead with 16:23 to play, but the Red Devils never led by more than three points throughout the evening.

The Red Devils will be back on the court next weekend in a two-game trip to Joliet, Ill., starting with an 8 p.m. tip-off against NAIA St. Francis on Saturday, Nov. 24.
