Eureka Blitzes RMU-Springfield Monday

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka College volleyball team closed its longest homestand since 2013 in style, coasting to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-18 non-conference victory over USCAA Robert Morris-Springfield, Monday night at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena. All 15 available Red Devils saw action in the win.

After yielding the first two points of the night, the hosts punched back with six straight points and wouldn't trail in the set again. A Heather Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) kill clinched the 25-12 win, as the final 13-point margin was EC's largest lead of the set.

The Red Devils quickly jumped on the Eagles in the second game, snagging a double-digit lead when an RMU attack error made the score 15-5 in favor of the Red Devils. A Katlyn Arrenholz (Delavan, Ill./Delavan H.S.) service ace secured the 25-11 win.

In game three, RMU led as late as 10-9 before a service ace from McKenna Cleer (Havana, Ill./Havana H.S.) knotted the score at 10-10. The Red Devils moved in front, 11-10, on an RMU attack error and extended their lead from that point forward. Another RMU attack error gave EC a 25-18 victory and a sweep of the match.

Eureka finished the match with 39 kills and a .250 attack percentage, its highest percentage since attacking at a .349 clip in a sweep of Iowa Wesleyan on Sept. 19. Robinson led EC with 10 kills and added 10 assists for her sixth double-double of the season. Annaliese Miller (Chenoa, Ill./Prairie Central H.S.) was next for the Red Devils with a career-high nine kills off the bench and Anna Crank (Washburn, Ill./Midland H.S./Clarke) put down seven.

Sara Worrell (Jacksonville, Ill./Routt Catholic H.S.) compiled 15 of the Red Devils' 34 assists and Cleer led all players with 13 digs. Jordan Detmers (Hartsburg, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden H.S.) delivered three service aces and Caitlin Miller (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) had five total blocks.

RMU, which dropped its 10th straight match to start the season, committed 25 errors against 20 kills. Jaylyn Manigo paced the visitors with nine kills.

Eureka resumes St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday at Iowa Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
