Women's Tennis Finishes Weekend Trip 1-2

The Westminster women's tennis team finished the weekend in Wisconsin 1-2. The Westminster Blue Jays played Marian (Wis.) on Friday, October 2 and lost 6-3. On Sunday, they played Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and won 6-3. They closed out the weekend with a 7-2 loss to Alverno. The weekend concludes the Blue Jays' non-traditional season with the 1-2 record.

Senior Jamie Striler won all six of her matches this weekend, including three wins in doubles competition with junior Laura Kelly

On Friday, the Blue Jays defeated Marian in one doubles competition and two singles spot. Striler won two of the Blue Jays' three points. She won in the number six singles spot with the scores of 6-3 and 6-2. She also won in doubles competition with Kelly in the number three spot. They had to use a tiebreaker and won 9-8 (7-3). Freshman Sydney Attebery won the remaining point for the Blue Jays in the number one spot with the scores of 4-6, 6-0, 10-8.

On Sunday, the Blue Jays opened up the day with a 6-3 win over MSOE. The Blue Jays won two doubles competitions in the two and three spots and four singles competitions. Freshman Laural Royer and freshman Meaghan McGuire defeated MSOE in the number two spot, 8-6. The Kelly and Striler duo won again in the third spot, 8-4. In singles, senior Jessica Klutts won in the second spot with scores of 6-4 and 6-4. Royer in the fourth spot won in a third set, 4-6, 7-5, 10-7. McGuire went into a tiebreaker in the second set and came out with the win in the fifth spot, 6-2, 7-6 (14-12). Striler won the final point for the Blue Jays with two 6-0 sweeps in the number six spot. 

In the second and final match of the day, the Blue Jays fell to Alverno, 7-2. The two wins came from the Kelly and Striler duo in the third spot and Striler in the number six singles spot. The duo won 8-5 and Striler won with the scores 6-3 and 7-6. 

The Blue Jays are done for their non-traditional season and will start back up in the spring.
