Men's soccer tops Illinois Wesleyan 2-1

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team picked up an important non-conference win on Saturday when they defeated Illinois Wesleyan 2-1 behind two goals from sophomore Jared McPeek.

The match proved to be physical with the teams combining for seven yellow cards.

Illinois Wesleyan managed to outshoot Greenville by a 20-8 margin, but the Panthers were up for the challenge, led by the goalkeeping of Michael Gonzalez in his first start of the season. Gonzalez provided Greenville with eight saves, and a late goal in the 86th minute was his only blemish.

Six of Greenville's eight shots came from the foot of McPeek. McPeek tallied three shots on goal.

McPeek's first goal occurred in the the 69th minute and his second was in the 85th minute. Adam Jones assisted on the first goal and Santiago Alzate had the assist on goal number two.

The Panthers (3-2) travel to Carthage next Friday for a match against Hope, followed by a contest versus Calvin on Saturday.
