FULTON, Mo. - A home run by Josie Cotter in the bottom of the seventh inning secured a two-game sweep of Eureka College on Senior Day, keeping the Blue Jays a perfect 6-0 in conference play.
The Blue Jays are now 13-9 overall.
"I am very pleased with the effort today," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "This was a team effort in every phase of the game."
Westminster got off to a fast start in the first game, with Alyson Hahn striking out the first three batters she faced. She earned her 33rd career win and improved to 6-2 on the year, allowing just two hits on the day and going the complete seven innings.
Brooke Laidley put the Blue Jays on board in the second with her first career home run, making the score 1-0. Laidley provided one RBI and two runs on the game.
The Red Devils scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Brittany Hodge put up two RBI to increase the Blue Jay lead to 3-1. Callie Collier added one more insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle to make the final score 4-1.
In game two, Katie Price took the mound. Eureka got off to a quick start with a three-run homer in the second.
"We weren't as sharp this game but we still found a way to win," said Henderson.
Hodge doubled in the fourth and scored on an error by the Red Devils to put themselves on the board.
A Josie Cotter three-run blast to center field in the fifth gave Westminster the lead again at 4-3. Erica Burney added another single in the inning to increase the lead to 5-3.
Alyson Hahn came back to pitch the last innings for Westminster, eventually taking the win and increasing her record to 7-2.
The Red Devils made a comeback run in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs to put themselves back on top at 6-5.
In the Blue Jays' last chance, Amber Tepen lead off with a single up the middle. Cotter added another blast to centerfield off of the first pitch to walk Westminster off on Senior Day.
"These young ladies are great and they are playing for each other and for Westminster," said Henderson. "It is very easy to coach that."
The Blue Jays return to action Wednesday for a doubleheader against Fontbonne. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
