Baseball drops 7-3 game at Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team went to Blackburn to make up their third game against the Beavers that was postponed in March, and the Panthers suffered a disappointing 7-3 loss in the series finale.

Head coach Lynn Carlson changed up his lineup, taking Drew Frey out of his customary leadoff slot and moving him to third in the order. Landon Mokris shifted down to clean up and responded admirably with a 3-for-3 and two RBI performance.

The Panthers scored a run in the first inning and were matched by the Beavers in the bottom of the inning.

Blackburn added three runs in the second, one in the third, and one in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead.

GU tacked on a run in the top of the sixth to make the score 6-2, but Blackburn kept up with a run in the bottom of the eighth.

In Greenville's final at bat, the Panthers scored one run.

George Schneider and Snyder Pennington each recorded two hits for the Panthers, and Schneider crossed the plate with two runs.

Ian Wilson received the start on the mound, pitching into the second inning and allowing four runs on four hits and three walks.

Cade Buehnerkemper threw 3.2 innings of relief and struck out five while allowing two runs.

Dylan Boehm was GU's final pitcher, and he allowed one run with five strikeouts.

The Panthers (11-14, 5-4 SLIAC) will travel to Eureka for a series on Friday and Saturday.
