Men's basketball slips by MacMurray

JACKSONVILLE, Ill — The men's basketball team stayed on top of the SLIAC standings with a 146-140 win at MacMurray on Saturday.

MacMurray took the early lead in the game as they held a 13 point lead just four minutes into the game.

Greenville steadily worked their way back into the game and trailed 81-76 at halftime.

In the early moments of the second half, the Panthers had erased the deficit and built a 14 point lead with just over nine minutes to play in the game.

Greenville made 54-of-104 to end with a shooting percentage of 51.9. They made 14-of-38 three-pointers to finish at 36.8 percent.

Vari Bonney led Greenville in scoring and rebounding with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Adam Warren had a 16-point game, and three players — Johari Dix, Barry Nixon, and Sonti Grady — had 15 points.

Dix and Josias Parker had team-highs with nine assists, while Nixon and Parker posted five steals.

The Panthers (13-8, 10-4 SLIAC) carry a one game lead over Eureka and Westminster with four SLIAC games to play. Three wins will give them no worse than a share of their third-straight SLIAC regular season championship.

Greenville returns to action at home on Wednesday against Blackburn.
