Westminster Men's Soccer NCAA Tournament Bound

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Westminster men's soccer defeats Spalding 3-2 to claim the SLIAC Tournament title and head to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth season in a row. 

"I'm so happy and proud of our guys," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We've battled a lot of adversity this year with injuries and guys have continued to step up for us."

After a quick goal in the sixth minute from Spalding, Kyle Collins evened the score in the 15th minute on a ball from David Immanuel

Both teams went into the halftime break tied at one goal apiece. 

in the 64th minute, Spalding went back on top, but less than four minutes later, Drew Cook added a goal to tie the score again. Immanuel again assisted on the goal. 

Daniel Barone, the Tournament MVP, netted the game-winner with less than seven minutes to play. 

Westminster outshot Spalding 17-8, dominating the second half by outshooting the Golden Eagles 10-2. 

Ben Chesher made one save in the game. 

"It was a great game here today," said Galla. "Our character and belief in each other pushed us near the end of the match to get us the big win."

Along with Barone receiving the MVP nod, Patrick Bromstedt, Drake Trease, and Mauricio Mateo also were named to the All-Tournament team. 

The Blue Jays will receive their opponent and location for the NCAA Tournament First Round in a selection show Monday.
