Westminster Volleyball Wins First SLIAC Match

EUREKA, Ill. - Westminster volleyball wins its first St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match 3-1 over Eureka.

The Blue Jays improve to 2-1 to open the season and 1-0 in the SLIAC. 

"The whole game was a little inconsistent and slow on our part, but we are a new team and will keep working our system," said Westminster Head Coach Natalia Koryzna. "I'm happy the girls worked together and pulled out the win."

Westminster narrowly took the opening set, 27-25, over the Red Devils. Eureka rebounded to even the score at one set apiece, defeating the Blue Jays 25-18 in the second set. 

The Blue Jays took the final two sets, 25-21 and 25-17, to take their first conference victory of the season. 

Thee Blue Jays recorded double-digit kills including Teresa Becker (14), Natalie Needy (12), and Sarah Rivers (10). Becker added a double-double with 10 digs, while freshmen setter Jill Reando recorded a double-double with 44 assists and 26 digs. Defensive specialist Bridget Ringwald led the team with 28 assists. 

Westminster travels to Greenville, Ill., Saturday, continuing conference play against Spalding and Webster.
