Westminster Women's Soccer Defeats Principia 4-2

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster women's soccer opened up SLIAC play with a 4-2 victory over Principia. 

The Blue Jays improve to 3-4 anad open up conference play 1-0. 

"Tonight was a battle against a very hard-working team," said Westminster Head Coach Jen Dyson. "I am incredibly proud of the ladies and the character they displayed tonight."

Kaely Fitterling scored the lone goal of the first half before each team opened up offensively in the second half. Gracie Koonce sent a cross into the mix, and Fitterling headed the ball in from close range for her first goal of the season. 

In the 47 minute, Tanya Marquardt added a goal for Principia to even out the score 1-1 early in the second half. 

Paige Townsend netted a ball in the 61st minute on another assist from Koonce. She sent the ball through to Townsend who put the ball into the far post from five yards out. 

Payton Beeler scored a goal of her own on a rocket from over 25 yards out. She sailed the ball over the goalie's head off of a rebound for her second goal this season. 

The Blue Jays continued their scoring frenzy in the 87th minute on a goal from Morgan Henry assistsed again by Koonce. Henry put the ball into the back of the net from 15 yards out to the far post. 

Clarice Buch of Principia added a second goal by launching a shot from 30 yards out that flew by goalkeeper Ellen Woolsey, but Westminster was able to secure the 4-2 win. 

Westminster dominated Principia in shots, leading them 24-10 on the game. Woolsey tallied five saves.
