Women's volleyball wraps up outright SLIAC regular season championship

FULTON, Mo. -- The women's volleyball team grabbed a five set win over Westminster on Wednesday night to win the outright SLIAC league championship and give them the hosting rights for the SLIAC tournament on Saturday.

The Lady Panthers won each of the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores.  They dropped the third and fourth sets 18-25, 16-25 before capturing the title with a 15-12 final set.

Junior hitter Allyson Mitchell took the team lead in kills with 14 and added 11 digs in the double-double effort.

Cheyenne Vaca and Savannah Sells each had 12 kills, and Kirsten Laune provided 39 assists.

Janisha Pealer anchored the defense with 16 digs, and Laune provided 12 digs.

Brittni Bell was a force at the net with three solo blocks and one block assist.

The Lady Panthers (23-7) will face Webster at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the first of two semifinals.  Westminster plays Spalding at 4 p.m.  The championship is scheduled for 7 p.m.
