Women's basketball ends 2019 with loss at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The women's basketball team fell 71-59 at Fontbonne on Saturday afternoon. Hannah Krukewitt paced Greenville with a 12 point, five rebound performance.

The Panther offense managed to produce a 19-of-53, 35.8 percent shooting clip, and that prevented them from keeping up with the Griffins who managed a 25-of-50, 50 percent mark from the floor. Greenville were also held back by committing 26 turnovers.

Greenville shot admirably from the free throw line, converting 18-of-21 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Panthers slipped behind 16-11 after the first quarter and outscored Fontbonne 16-14 in the second quarter to make it a 30-27 game in Fontbonne's favor at halftime.

The third quarter allowed Fontbonne to pull away when they outscored GU 22-14 before ending with a 19-18 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Megan Barrett and Madelyn Stephen joined Krukewitt with a double-figure scoring output with 11 points each.

The Panther defense was led by Krukewitt and Abigail Reinneck with three steals.

The women's basketball team wrapped up the 2019 portion of their schedule with a record of 4-6 (1-2 SLIAC). They return to the court on Saturday, January 4, at Spalding in a game at 1 p.m. ET.
