Westminster Softball Scores 17 in Rout of Mount Mary

GRINNELL, Iowa - Westminster softball got back to its winning ways with a 17-0 win over Mount Mary, falling in the second game 11-7 to Grinnell.

The Blue Jays move to 4-12 to finish nonconference play before the season starts. 

"We are finally in a good place in fielding and hitting," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "It was a good day, and we are finally ready for conference play."

Katie Price pitched all five innings for Westminster, giving up just two hits in the shutout and striking out 11. 

Madison Washington led the way for Westminster with six RBI in the game, including a grand slam in the first inning to start the Blue Jay offense. 

In game two against Grinnell, Westminster kept pace until the four-run third inning for the Pioneers which gave them a 7-3 lead over the Blue Jays. 

Brooke Laidley went 3-4 and scored three runs batting in the second slot, while Amber Tepen, batting in the third spot, drove in three runs. Washington added two more RBI to total eight on the day. 

Madison Ingram started on the mound and pitched two innings, eventually taking the loss. 

"We were aggressive in every area today and it was a great way to end nonconference play," said Henderson. "Everyone contributed. We are ready for a good run in conference."

Westminster opens conference play Monday at home against Principia at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
