Overtime Heartbreak: Westminster Edges Eureka, 5-4

FULTON, Mo.James Bowen (Homer Glen, Ill./Seneca H.S.) scored twice and Cole Collins (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.) provided an equalizer late in regulation for his first collegiate goal, but Westminster's Matthew Schulte tallied the golden goal in the 104th minute to down the Eureka College men's soccer team in double overtime, Saturday afternoon in Fulton, Mo.

Michael Hansen (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) also scored for the visitors, who narrowly missed an opportunity to knock off the five-time defending SLIAC Tournament champion Blue Jays for the first time in program history.

Hansen's goal at 19:27, followed by Bowen's strike at 24:06, allowed EC to lead the match 2-0. WC got on the board thanks to Patrick Wisnewski's goal in the 31st minute and the Red Devils led 2-1 at halftime.

Joe Wilder tied the match for WC at 54:00, but Bowen punched back just 2-minutes, 40-seconds later for a 3-2 Eureka edge. The Blue Jays later grabbed their only lead of regulation (4-3) on goals from Justin Gerdiman (74:53) and Jephte Ngendo (78:07) before Collins pulled Eureka level with his first collegiate goal at 84:21 for a 4-4 tie.

After both sides played a scoreless first overtime, Schulte won it for the Blue Jays on Colin Walsh's assist at 103:24.

Eureka is back home Tuesday at 7 p.m. for a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against MacMurray at McKinzie Field.
