Westminster Men's Soccer Advances to SLIAC Championship

ST. LOUIS - Westminster men's soccer posted a 1-0 win over Fontbonne to advance to the championship game of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The No. 4 Blue Jays overcame the No. 1 seed Fontbonne and will face No. 3 Principia Friday night at 7 p.m. for the championship.

"This was a great defensive effort," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "We started strong and were able to score a nice goal. We put outselves in a good position and grinded it out at the end."

The lone goal of the game came in the 18th minute from Justin Gerdiman. Austin Chandler and Brandon Rettke were part of the cross that Gerdiman was able to tap in to secure a score for Westminster.

A strong Blue Jay defense held the Griffins scoreless for the remainder of the match to secure their championship game fate.

The game was evenly matched offensively, as both teams were able to land 16 shots and six shots on goal.

Connor Bandre played all 90 minutes in goal, making six saves.

"I'm super proud of our guys," said Galla. "Now we are just focused on Principia on Friday."
