Softball wins SLIAC first round game

ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- The softball team advanced into the winner's bracket of the SLIAC tournament with a 4-1 win over Webster in the first round.

The Lady Panthers jumped in front with a three run second inning.  In the second inning, Josie Koontz, Tiffany Samsoe, and Jordyn Wieland reached base with the bases loaded, each picking up one RBI.  Koontz singled to the pitcher, Samsoe singled to right field, and Wieland was hit by a pitch.

Webster reached Greenville starting pitcher Brianna Anderson for a home run in the top of the fourth, but that was all they could muster.

Anderson pitched the complete game with only six baserunners permitted.  Three reached on hits, two were walked, and one was hit by a pitch.  Anderson struck out three in improving her record to 12-6.

Samsoe had another RBI single in the seventh inning.

The Lady Panthers (22-15) will face Westminster in the second round on Saturday at 2 p.m.
