GALESBURG, Ill. - Westminster women's soccer earned the first win of the 2016 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Monmouth.

After 36 minutes of back and forth play, Payton Beeler netted the first goal of the season in the 37th minute on a rebound from the crossbar.

The Blue Jays went into the half with a 1-0 lead. Gracie Koonce gave Westminster a comfortable lead in the 74th minute with an assist from Beeler.

"Today we took the field with incredible work ethic and discipline," said Westminster Head Coach Jen Dyson. "The team bounced back after a challenging loss and worked hard to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves."

Westminster recorded 12 shots on the game, including three apiece from Morgan Henry and Paige Townsend. Sarah Cradick played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.

The Blue Jay return home Sept. 10 to face Millikin for a 2 p.m. matchup.
