Women's volleyball completes perfect final day at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The women's volleyball team completed a 3-1 tournament at Millikin with a pair of three set wins on Saturday. In the first match, Greenville defeated Monmouth, a team coached by former Greenville student-athlete and assistant coach Emily Thebeau, before wrapping up the event with a win over Marian (Wisconsin).

In the match against Monmouth, Greenville was challenged in a 26-24 opening set, but then the squad settled in and dismantled Monmouth 25-17 and 25-15 in the remaining sets.

Middle Anna Finch was a powerhouse for Greenville in the match, posting 15 kills and five block assists for 17.5 points. She hit .458 with 15 kills, four errors, and 24 attacks.

Payten Morris was second on the team with nine kills, and another middle Emily Stahl produced eight kills, two errors, 15 attacks, and a hitting rate of .400.

Jordan Lempa managed the offense with 29 set assists.

In the back row, Jasmin Smith and Chasity Hill each had nine digs.

In the final match of the tournament, Greenville did not struggle in the opening two sets, taking 25-18, 25-15 set wins, but Marian challenged GU in a final set that Greenville won 26-24.

Finch and Smith were both Greenville's leading players on the attack with 10 kills each. Finch provided a hitting rate of .429 with 10 kills, one error, and 21 attacks while Smith posted a line of 10 kills, one error, 24 attacks, and .375 hitting percentage.

Finch also helped with six block assists.

Lauren Spivey had an efficient match with seven kills in 10 attacks, a hitting percentage of .700, one solo block, and six block assists.

Smith completed a double-double by adding 17 digs. Hill was right behind Smith with 16 digs.

The Panthers (7-2) return home for a match on Tuesday against Eureka at 7 p.m.
