Westminster Men's Soccer Picks Up Point in Spalding Tie

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Westminster men's soccer tied Spalding 3-3, ending in a tie for Westminster to pick up a point in conference play.

The Blue Jays move to 1-7-1 overall and 0-0-1 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

"We had another slow start but we responded well and made some good adjustments," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "At the end of the day we still picked up a good point on the road against a good side."

Spalding dominated the first half, scoring two goals in the opening 25 minutes of play.

Brandon Rettke gave the Blue Jays hope going into halftime, scoring an unassisted goal with under a minute to play in the half.

The power shifted in the second half, with Westminster scoring two more goals. Rettke added his second in the 82nd minute on an assist from Patrick Wisnewski to tie the game at two goals apiece.

Jephte Ngendo scored the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later, giving the Blue Jays the 3-2 advantage with under eight minutes to play.

The Golden Eagles scored the equalizer with 39 seconds on the clock to tie the game at three goals each. Neither team was able to score in overtime, making the final score 3-3. The Blue Jays found three chances to score against the one shot for Spalding, but it wasn't enough to tally the win.
