MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Westminster softball ended the Fastpitch Dreams Classic with two wins in a doubleheader against St. Joseph's (Conn.). 

The Blue Jays are now 7-9 in the nonconference part of their schedule to open the season. They won the first game 5-3 and the second game 4-2.

"This was a great spring break trip where we learned about team and coaches contribution," said Westminster Head Coach Joe Henderson. "Every player saw meaningful time and did their job when called upon." 

Game one was highlighted by a grand slam from Josie Cotter in the sixth inning to give the Blue Jays the 5-3 lead.

Kayla Pilgrim started on the mound for the Blue Jays, pitching four innings and giving up one run. Katie Price finished the game, allowing two runs. 

Along with Cotter's grand slam and four RBI, Amber Tepen added an RBI in the bottom of the sixth to put Westminster on the board for the first time in the game. 

Lexi Knisley started game two for Westminster, going 3.2 shutout innings and allowing just three hits and one walk. Katie Price again finished the game, earning the win. 

Westminster scored first in this game on a sacrifice fly by Erica Burney, her eighth RBI of the week. 

St. Joseph's pulled ahead with a run in the fifth and sixth inning, but Westminster again pulled off a late-game rally to earn the win. In the top of the seventh, pinch runner Emily Lucitt scored on a wild pitch to get the inning started. Tepen drove in Callie Collier on a sacrifice fly, and Josie Cotter ended the inning with a single to center field.

"A 4-2 finish to the week against quality competition was everything and more than I expected," said Henderson. "We grew up this week. I'm very proud of this team." 

Westminster stays on the road and travels to Central College for a weekend series against Central and Saint Benedict Saturday and Sunday.
