St. Louis, Mo. – The Westminster men's basketball team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end with a 78-65 loss to Webster on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Jays fall to 4-2 in SLIAC play and 5-7 overall.

After Webster scored the first five points of the game Jaxon Althaus made a jumper for the first Westminster points of the game. A pair of Landon Harrison layups made the score 9-6. Ethan Thompson then cut the lead to 11-10 with a three-pointer and free throw. The Gorloks answered with a three-pointer before a Harrison layup cut the lead back down to one possession 14-12. Webster then scored six unanswered points until a three-pointer from Emil Spriggs cut the lead to 20-15 with just under 15 minutes left in the half.

Following the three from Spriggs the Westminster offense went the next 7:35 without a field goal until a layup by TJ Cochran ended the drought. During that span, the Blue Jays scored five points on free throws. Makygh Galbreath made three of those free throws and Harrison made the other two. However, the Blue Jays could not establish momentum and trailed Webster 39-32 at halftime.

Webster opened the second half with a 13-2 run and maintained a double-digit lead until Harrison made two free throws to make the score 66-58 with 5:07 left in the game. Althaus then cut the Webster lead to seven points with a jump shot. The Gorloks then scored five points to extend their lead to 12 points before Althaus hit a jumper to make it a 10 point game with 3:19 remaining. However, a jumper by the Gorloks put the lead back to 12 points and Webster held on to take to the game 75-68.

Harrison scored 22 points to lead the Blue Jays. Thompson added 14 points while Altahus scored 10. Galbreath recorded a team-leading eight rebounds.

The Blue Jays will play again on Wednesday night when they host Fontbonne.
