Webster Overcomes Westminster Women's Soccer

FULTON, Mo. - Westminster women's soccer opened the game strong, but it was not enough to defeat Webster who overcame the Blue Jays 5-0.

The Blue Jays fall to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the SLIAC. Webster improves to 5-6 on the year.

"Today was a tough challenge against a very talented team," said Westminster Head Coach Jen Dyson. "We had moment of great play and we will continue to work to connect those moments to a full 90. There are so many undiscovered talents within this young group."

Westminster started the match on the right foot, playing the Gorlocks in a close and agressive scoreless match for the first 25 minutes.

The Gorlocks added two goals in the last 20 minutes of the half to secure a solid 2-0 lead over Westminster going into the half.

Ellen Woolsey came out of goal for Westminster and Sarah Cradick came in, as has been custom for the Blue Jays this season. Webster added to the lead with three more goals to secure their victory at 5-0. Allison Ferguson and Melissa Kasper each scored two while Janel Bond added the last.

Paige Townsend and Morgan Henry provided the only offense for Westminster, each with a shot on goal.

Webster outshot the Blue Jays 19-3. Woolsey made six saves to Cradick's four.

Westminster goes on to face Eureka for Homecoming Weekend Saturday at 5 p.m. on Westminster Field.
