Simpson splits non-conference matches

DECATUR, Ill. -- The Simpson volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on the final day of the Millikin 5 State Classic.

Simpson (7-9) defeated Westminster (10-12) in the Storm's first match of the day but fell in straight sets to Albion (16-6).

Set Scores: 25-21, 25-23, 25-16

The Storm swung at a season-high .324 hitting clip to knock down 48 kills on their way to their third sweep of the season.

Jessica Jacobs exploded for 18 kills in the match, Blayne Koster added a season-high 13 while hitting .393, and Megan LeMay chipped in five.

Marissa Salber dished out 40 assists, and Iman Ghalibaf led the defensive effort with 11 digs.

Albion 3, Simpson 0
Set Scores: 22-25, 15-25, 23-25

After a strong offensive performance in the opener, Simpson cooled down to hit .122 in the second game against the Britons. Albion claimed the opening set with a three-point victory before posting a convincing 25-15 win and securing the sweep with a late rally in set three.

Jacobs added 15 more kills to lead the Storm offensively, while seven individuals tallied at least four digs on the defensive side of the ball.
