Men's basketball stopped by Webster in SLIAC Game of the Week

GREENVILLE, Ill. - In a game that was dubbed the SLIAC Game of the Week, the men's basketball team and Webster competed in a contest that Webster led throughout the second half in the Gorloks 130-122 win over the Panthers.  The game featured seven ties and 13 lead changes.

After a back-and-forth first 20 minutes, the teams went to halftime with Webster leading by a narrow 61-59 score.

In the second half, Webster gave Greenville everything they had as the Panthers fell behind by 18 at 99-81 with 11 minutes to play.  Greenville came back to cut the deficit to six in the next three and a half minutes as they went on a 16-4 run to make the score 103-97 with 7:36 remaining.  The Panthers couldn't get any closer the rest of the night.

At the final buzzer, there were six Panthers who ended with double-figure scoring efforts.  Greenville was led by Eric Williams with 26 points and Johari Dix with 22 points.  Isiah Price ended with 15 points, and Rakim Murphy added 14 points.  Kodi Badger and Marvin Bateman each chipped in 12 points.

Williams and Badger were GU's top rebounders with seven each, and Williams had a team-high six assists.

Greenville forced 31 turnovers and collected 20 steals as Dix, Williams, and Josias Parker all had four steals.

The Panthers (10-5, 7-1 SLIAC) saw their winning streak that started on Nov. 28 snapped at eight, and they slipped into a tie for first place in the SLIAC with Webster.  Greenville returns to the court on Saturday at Eureka at 3 p.m.
