Golden Eagles Crush Principia in Friday Night Game, 17-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Spalding University baseball team defeated Principia College, 17-0, in the Friday night game of their three-game weekend series. The win improves the Golden Eagles to 25-10 overall, 15-2 in conference play. The loss drops the Panthers to 16-18 overall, 7-13 in conference play.

Jimi Keating (11-0) picked up the win, while Hunter Mehring (2-1) was hit with the loss. Keating dealt for seven innings, holding the Panthers to just three hits while striking out eleven.

Kam Bruner led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple, stolen base, a run batted in, and three runs scored. Matt Harper went 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base, three runs batted in, and two runs scored. Nic Chafin went 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, and a pair of runs scored. Clay Kelly went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run. Jacob Woodruff was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and three runs scored.

The Golden Eagles scored early and often, as a pair of runs came in to score in the top of the first inning with help from a Panther error and a run scoring single by Harper. They tacked on a run in the third inning on a Blake Patterson groundout. Spalding added nine runs in the fourth, including home runs from Chafin and Kelly, four in the fifth, and another in the sixth as that was way more than Keating would need en route to another complete game victory.

The Golden Eagle Nine are back in action tomorrow, April 29th, as they continue their three-game set against Principia with a pair of ballgames on Spalding's Senior Day. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 pm EST.
