Men's basketball takes 17 point win at Iowa Wesleyan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - The men's basketball team was able to come home with a 136-119 win at Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday night. Barry Nixon provided Greenville with 25 points in the victory.

Riley Simmons gave the Panthers 17 points and a team-high three steals while Austyn Contreras and Henry Johnson each registered 16 points.

The Panthers won the game behind the three point line and at the free throw line. Greenville made 23-of-59 three-pointers and 29-of-32 free throws to end at a 90.6 percent success rate at the line.

It was the second time this season that the Panthers shot better than 90 percent at the charity stripe. Their previous best was a 19-of-21, 90.5 percent performance at home on Jan. 20 also against IWU.

The win kept GU in second place in the SLIAC standings, 1.5 games behind Webster whose scheduled game Wednesday was postponed to Thursday. Blackburn looms a game behind Greenville in third place.

The Panthers (12-10, 11-4 SLIAC) host Principia on Saturday at 3 p.m. in H.J. Long Gymnasium. Senior day activities will begin at approximately 2:45 p.m.
