How It Happened
The Golden Eagles grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second with Dryden Schroeder leading off with a triple. After a fly-out, Schroeder scored on Michael Speck's single for the 1-0 lead.
In the third, the Golden Eagles broke it open scoring six runs on five hits with Mitchell Langely, Evan Trentman, Eric Meyer, and Schroeder recording four straight hits and an RBI each Zane Baker added an RBI double putting the Golden Eagles ahead by seven.
Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the fifth with Trey Kueper reaching on a fielder's choice allowing Lane Smith to score.
The Griffins added another run in the sixth but Spalding was able to secure the final nine outs from there for the five run win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Thomas Purschke, Braeden Dobbs, Lane Smith, and Luke Meixner had one hit each.
- Derek Morganthaler fell to 7-3 going 2.2 innings allowing four earned runs.
- Tyson Wilson came out of the pen going a season-high 5.1 innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
