Softball tops Platteville, falls to Central during second day in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The softball team recorded their first win of their spring break trip with a 7-2 victory over Wisconsin-Platteville in their second game of the day on Tuesday.  Prior to their win, they lost 7-0 to nationally ranked Central College.

The game against Central went squarely in favor of Greenville's opponent.  Central posted one run in the top of the first inning, two runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and three runs in the fifth.

Becca Oldham was in the circle for Greenville and gave up all seven runs, three earned, on seven hits.  She fell to 0-2.

Tiffany Samsoe got two hits in three at bats, including a double.

Game two belonged to Greenville as the Lady Panthers led 5-0 before Platteville scored their first runs in the fourth inning.

Greenville got an RBI double from Kate Jolliff in the first inning, a two-run double from Jordyn Wieland in the second inning, and a solo home run from Jolliff in the third.  Greenville added their fifth run on a sacrifice by Jolliff in the fourth inning.

In the top of the sixth, Oldham produced a two run single.

Brianna Anderson went the distance for Greenville in the circle as she improved her record to 1-1.  She struck out nine and allowed two runs on six hits.

The Lady Panthers (4-4) play Wisconsin-La Crosse and Suffolk on Wednesday.
