Men's soccer advances past Westminster with 2-0 win

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's soccer team managed to defeat Westminster for the second time in the 2021 season, ending the Blue Jays campaign, with a 2-0 win in the quarterfinals of the SLIAC tournament on Tuesday night.

Greenville received goals from Jared McPeek and Ruben Martinez in the victory.

The Panthers finished with an 18-11 shot advantage in the match, posting eight shots in the first half and 10 in the second stanza, in their postseason triumph.

McPeek, who knocked in his 13th goal of the season in the 21st minute of the match, was one of two Panthers to finish with three shots. Juan Salazar also posted three shots.

Both McPeek and Salazar had two shots on goal.

The Panthers (12-8-1) have a match with Spalding on Thursday night in Louisville, Ky., with an appearance in the SLIAC finals on the line. The Panthers and Golden Eagles split their matches previously this season.
