Westminster Men's Soccer Defeats MacMurray; Heads to SLIAC Tourney

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Westminster men's soccer defeated MacMurray 5-0 and will enter the SLIAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed and first-round host.

Westminster improves to 12-3 overall and 7-1-1 in the conference. The squad is second only to undefeated Spalding. 

Westminster got off to a quick start with two goals in under one minute of play. 

The first goal was scored by Patrick Bromstedt at the 22 second mark on an assist from Daniel Barone

At the 37-second mark, Drake Trease added a goal on a ball from Cooper Smith

"We did a great job of coming out fast and we put them under a lot of pressure," said Westminster Head Coach Adam Galla. "It's been a really good regular season but now it's time to refocus and get ready for the postseason."

Trease added a second goal in the 23rd minute to make the score 3-0 in favor of Westminster. 

Cooper Smith netted a ball to complete the first half for Westminster, 4-0. 

in the 78th minute, David Immanuel got a pass from Trease to put in the fifth and final goal of the match. 

Trease led the teamin scoring with five points. Westminster outshot the Highlanders 16-3, while Ben Chesher played 90 minutes in goal and made one save. 

Westminster enters the SLIAC tournament as the No. 2 seed and will host No. 3 Fontbonne at home Thursday night.
