Storm can’t generate enough offense in loss to Westminster

FULTON, Mo. — Maddie Simmons scored a late goal but the Simpson women's soccer team couldn't hold off the attack of Westminster in a 3-1 loss Friday evening.

The host Bluejays (3-1) outshot Simpson 29-3 on the night, putting 12 shots on goal. Goalkeepers Riley Adams and Zoe Seiler combined to make nine saves but it wasn't enough to give Simpson its second win in a row.

Simmons found the back of the net in the 84th minute for the Storm (1-4), giving them a goal in consecutive games after failing to score in the first three contests of the season.

Adams kept Westminster out of the net in the first half despite facing 15 shots. Paige Townsend got the Bluejays on the board in the 49th minute, then made it 2-0 in the 60th. Lexi Hart scored the third goal for the hosts in the 83rd minute.
