Harrisburg Closes Out Spring Break Trip with Sweep

Penn State Harrisburg closed out its spring break trip with two wins over Lehman College 8-0 in 5 innings and Eureka College 7-4.

            In game 1, the Lions battled the Lehman College. Penn State Harrisburg's offense got going in the third inning. Senior Rubie Teffeteller (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) led off the inning with a single to the shortstop, and advanced to second on the errant throw for the games first hit. Freshman Katie Humphrey (Duncannon, Pa/ Susquenita) followed that up with a singled up the middle to drive in Teffeteller.

            The Lions offense would extend the lead in the fourth inning. After making two outs, Teffeteller and Humphrey followed up with singles. Senior Jenna Rupakus (New Milford, Pa/ Blue Ridge) lifted a ball to center field that was mishandled by the center fielder allowing two runs to score. After Senior Kayla Seyfert (Lebanon, Pa/ Cedar Crest) drew a walk, Carlee Gochenaur (Harrisburg, Pa/ Central Dauphin)  singled over second base driving in a run. Junior Emily Parmer (Willow Street, Pa/ Solanco) and Senior Amanda Hartman (Fleetwood, Pa/ Oley Valley) added RBI doubles to extend the lead. Sophomore Alli Hartman (Harrisburg, Pa/ Susquehanna Township) closed out the inning with a RBI single to give Penn State Harrisburg an 8-0 lead.

            In the circle, Amanda Hartman had another stand out performance. Hartman struck out eight batters while allowing only one hit through 5 innings. This was her second straight one hit performance. Hartman improved to 4-0 on the week with the win.

            In game 2, the Lions faced the Eureka Red Devils. Penn State Harrisburg struck first in the top of third inning. Rupakus laid down a bunt to reach first base.  Seyfert reached base with a bunt of her own moving Rupakus into scoring position. Parmer would smack a single to center to drive in the first run of the day.

            The defense would come in huge of the Lions in the bottom of the third inning. After well placed bunts put runners on first and second for the Red Devils. Eureka center fielder Krysten Wallace lifted a ball to center field, where Parmer made a diving catch. Parmer threw the ball into Rupakus at a second who tagged the base and fired to Senior Kate Herr (Kirkwood, Pa/ Solanco) at first to complete the triple play.

            Penn State Harrisburg used the momentum from the triple play, and took control of the game in the sixth inning. Amanda Hartman got the offense going with a triple to center field. Freshman Jess Roelli (Zurich, Switzerland/ Sekundarschulhaus Seehalde) singled past the third baseman to drive in Hartman. A single by Alli Hartman and walks by Sophomore Nina Bruno (Hummelstown, Pa./ Central Dauphin East) and Rupakus loaded the bases. Seyfert blasted a triple to center field plating all three runs. Later in the inning a single by Parmer would score Seyfert, giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.

            On the rubber, Alli Hartman kept the Red Devils offense attack at bay most of the game. Hartman allowed four runs in seven innings of action. Hartman improved to 2-2 on the season.

            Head Coach Tonya Dengler said about the trip, "We made great strides this week as a team. It took a total team effort to play so many games in a short amount of time. We are anxious to get back to home to Penn State Harrisburg, because there's more work to do!"

            Penn State Harrisburg improves to 6-2 on the season and will return to action at Elizabethtown College on Tuesday March 14th
