FULTON, Mo. - Westminster baseball put up a total of 29 runs in two games to blow by the Blackburn Beavers in a doubleheader.
The Blue Jays improve to 8-8 overall and 3-2 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
In game one, Westminster put up runs in just two innings, but each inning the team went for multiple runs including a 10-run sixth inning to come from behind and eventually take the win.
After the Beavers hit a three-run shot in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead, Westminster answered with five runs of their own. Nick Bohlmann, Ryan Clavin, and Ryan Klimkiewicz went for back-to-back-back doubles to score three runs, followed by Will Stonecipher reaching on a fielder's choice for an RBI and an RBI single from Adam Mundle.
The Beavers got back on top in the sixth, hitting two homeruns to go up 6-5.
The Blue Jays exploded in the bottom of the sixth for 10 runs. After loading the bases, Clavin walked to drive in a run followed by a sacrifice fly from Mason Price. Klimkiewicz added two more RBI with a two-run homerun for the third and fourth runs of the inning. Mundle added two more on a double, followed by two singles from Brandon Beeler and Clavin to go up 15-6.
A solo shot from the Beavers in the seventh made the final score 15-7 in favor of Westminster.
Ian Cassidy started on the mound for the Blue Jays, earning the win to start 4-1, pitching six innings and giving up six runs on eight hits, striking out eight.
In game two, Westminster continued its offensive streak, scoring in all but two of the seven innings.
Blackburn got on the board first with two runs in the second, but Westminster answered with a three-run bottom of the second and never looked back, including a solo homerun from Mundle and RBI from Eisenreich and Bohlmann.
Klimkiewicz continued his strong day with another homerun, scoring two to kick off the third inning. He added two more RBI on singles in the fourth and fifth innings.
After Westminster had the 10-run lead going into the sixth, the Beavers fought back to make the score 12-4. Mason Price hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh to secure the early-inning victory for the Blue Jays.
Alex Dickneite earned the win to go 1-1 on the year. He pitched all seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, striking out two.
Klimkiewicz went 6-8 on the day with seven RBI and four runs. Price went 4-8 on the day with five RBI.
Westminster remains at home, facing Iowa Wesleyan Saturday for a 12 p.m. doubleheader. The rubber match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
