Men's soccer comeback falls short

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's soccer team fell a goal short as they competed with Fontbonne at home on Thursday night.  Fontbonne came out ahead of the Panthers with a 2-1 final score.

The Panthers allowed Fontbonne to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first half as the Griffins scored in the 30th and 38th minutes.

Greenville held them scoreless the rest of the game, and Edgar Bueno posted a goal on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to pull the Panthers within striking distance.

The Panthers collected 10 shots in the match with Bueno and David Yakim each totaling four.  Greenville placed four shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Michael Gonzalez was busy as he faced 26 shots and compiled a career high seven saves.

The Panthers (6-8, 1-3 SLIAC) host Eureka on Saturday at 5 p.m.
