Women's Volleyball Earns First Win On Year In Impressive Fashion Over Webster

Fontbonne def. Webster, 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 15-25, 25-16)

The Basics:
Set 1: The Griffins rattled off a 3-0 run to gain a 14-10 lead on a Webster attack error and that forced the Gorloks to take a timeout. Out of the break, the Griffins expanded its lead out to 23-16, however, the Gorloks went on a 6-0 run trailing 23-22 and that forced Fontbonne to call timeout to talk things over.
Fontbonne was able to regroup and close out the set on Kristen Kaempfe's kill and a service ace from her as well for the 25-22 win.
Set 2: The Griffins carried that momentum over into the second taking a 9-1 lead on Alexa Lofgren's service ace. The Gorloks got right back in it going on an 11-4 run to narrow the Griffins lead down to 13-12.
However, the Griffins never relinquished its lead as the set wore on and they were able to go on for the 25-22 victory on Lizzy Harvey's kill.
Set 3: In the third, the Gorloks this time around opened with a commanding 14-5 lead after a Kyra Gensel service ace. It was Webster's best set on the night with the team totaling 10 kills and a .267 hitting percentage en route to the 25-15 victory.
Set 4: The Griffins, though gathered themselves and put the match away in the fourth. After Fontbonne led 12-8, the home team went on a dominating 8-0 run leading, 20-8. It was smooth sailing from there with Fontbonne totaling a match-high 15 kills en route to the 25-16 win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- The Griffins finished with 49 kills and a .111 hitting percentage.
- They set new season-highs with seven service aces, while defensively the team dominated at the net with a season-high 12 block assists.
- Jadyn Fitzgerald made it double-double No. 10 in her career with 12 kills and 14 digs.
- Kristen Kaempfe tied her season-high with 11 kills and set a new season-high with three blocks.
- Kelly Herr had a massive game as well with nine kills and a .250 hitting percentage.
- Setter Ella Werner-Click had the offense in a rhythm tonight with 40 assists and 13 digs. It's her fourth career double-double.
- Emma Pramik recorded her third straight 20-plus dig contest ending with 22.
- Jordan Harpel was one off her season-high with four blocks.
Up Next
The Griffins head out to Franklin, Indiana tomorrow when they'll take on host Franklin at 4 p.m. On Saturday, the Griffins are in action bright and early against Baldwin Wallace at 9 a.m., followed by Anderson (Ind.) at 11 a.m.
