Immanuel Leads Blue Jays Past War Hawks

Columbia, Mo.  - David Immanuel scores two goals in the Westminster men's soccer victory over the War Hawks of McMurry.

The Blue Jays started the season off quick with an early goal from Immanual in the sixth minute, who sent in ball in the net to the far upper post. Kyle Collins assisted the goals. 

Westminster struck again quickly, turning around less than two minutes later to widen the gap to 2-0 on an unassisted goal by Drake Trease

The War Hawks stayed in the game by adding a goal of their own in the 24th minute from Ethan Brown, but Immanuel kept Westminster with a healthy lead making th score 3-2 going into the half. Collins assisted on Immanuel's second goal as well. 

Despite McMurry's attempt to come back by adding a goal in the 70th minute, the Blue Jays maintained their lead throughout the match and closed out the first win of the year and starting the season 1-0. 

Jake Kerkemeyer started in goal and added one save for Westminster. 

"We got off to a great start and struggled to maintain our quality of play in the second half," said first-year Head Coach Adam Galla. "We give McMurry credit for clawing their way back into the game, but we found a way to see it out. It was a great opportunity fo us and I know we'll continue to move forward." 

Westminster travels to Simpson College Saturday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
