Deakle and Munson Go Yard As Celts Sweep Eureka

Deakle and Munson Go Yard As Celts Sweep Eureka
Softball swept the visiting Eureka College this Sunday afternoon. After two games of official competition, the Celts outscored the Devils 17-1.

Game 1: UST 8 Eureka 1
From the first pitch, the Celts threated to score. St. Thomas posted three hits in the home half of the first inning, but were unable to capitalize. From there a bases loaded walk in the second inning kickstarted the scoring. After adding one more in the third, the Celts a large five run fouth inning as Kayleigh Deakle hit her first homer of the season. This led to six more hits as Eureka could not keep pace with St. Thomas. When the score settled, the game ended 8-1 with St. Thomas notching their ninth win of the season.

Bailey Tisdale had a great outing allowing just five hits and going the distance. Tisdale also notched five strikeouts in the win.

Game 2: UST 9 Eureka 0
In the first inning, the Celts exploded for four runs as Mallarie Munson went yard for the first time this season. Then in the second inning the Celts added two more runs powered by a Lindsey Gonzalez double, and her stealing home later in the frame. Gonzalez then had a 2 RBI single the following inning to put St. Thomas up 8-0. Then down to their final outs, Eureka only managed one hit in the entire game as the Celts reached 10 wins for the third consecutive year.

Allison Hughes got the start in the circle and shined. Hughes allowed just one hit and struck out eight batters as she recorded the shutout.
