Men's basketball draws even with Webster on top of SLIAC

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team took an early lead and held off a late rally from Iowa Wesleyan in its 131-125 win in H.J. Long Gymnasium on Monday.

Sontiago Grady recorded a team-high 28 points on 11-of-24 shooting from the field, including 4-of-11 three pointers, and 2-of-3 free throws.

Eric Williams and Henry Johnson of the starting unit also reached or surpassed 20 points. Williams posted 22 points, and Johnson had 20 points, including a three-point make from 70 feet at the conclusion of the first half.

At halftime, the Panthers held a 67-48 advantage.

The Tigers outscored Greenville 77-64 in the second half, but they never got any closer than a deficit of five points.

Riley Simmons provided a double-double for GU with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Simmons also led the Panthers with five steals.

Chris Jackson was the top producer with four steals, and Barry Nixon had five blocked shots.

The Panthers (7-8, 6-2 SLIAC) host Eureka on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The win pulled Greenville into a first place tie with Webster in the SLIAC standings.
