Baseball drops Wednesday game against Millikin

GREENVILLE, Ill. - The baseball team ran into a talented Millikin ball club on Wednesday night and lost 14-3 in seven innings.

The Big Blue took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and led 3-0 after two.

In the third and fourth innings, Millikin scored four runs in each inning to establish an 11-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, MU added one more to go up 12-0.

In the Panthers turn at bat in the sixth inning, George Schneider broke up the no-hitter with a single and went to second base on a wild pitch.

With Schneider standing on second base, Landon Mokris was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with nobody out.

In Snyder Pennington's turn at bat, Pennington reached on the fielder's choice to the shortstop, and Schneider advanced to third base. Brexton Beard then delivered a sacrifice fly to left field for GU's first run.

In the ensuing at bat, Nathan Eye stepped to the plate and crushed a blast to left field that cleared the fence for a two run home run to make the score 12-3.

Millikin added two runs in the top of the seventh and held GU without a run in the bottom of the inning to take the 14-3 win.

Dylan Boehm started on the mound for Greenville and worked into the third inning, giving up five runs on six hits over two innings.

Terry Millikan recorded four outs and permitted five runs, four earned, on six hits and two walks.

Jacob Hammer hurled 1.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit, and Cade Buehnerkemper finished the game with two innings. Buehnerkemper allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while fanning two batters.

The Panthers (7-10) host Westminster on Thursday at 5 p.m. in a SLIAC contest that was rescheduled from Friday due to the weather forecast.
